Day 25: Tokyo

Asakusa (where we spent New Year's Eve a year or two ago) has a free tour for foreigners. Being foreigners ourselves, we took the tour. Didn't learn all that much, but it got us out of our room at a decent hour and Asakusa is usually a bit of fun. Plus there was a monkey!

From there we went to Harajuku. To look at the strange people all dressed up and to shop. Successful on both counts.

Let me teach you a little something about Japanese food. In specific: Monjayaki. Okonomiyaki is an Osakan specialty, cabbage, eggs, batter and whatever else you want to throw in all mixed up together and cooked up into a savoury pancake/omelet concoction. Tasty. Modanyaki is basically okonomiyaki with noodles added to the mix. The okono in okonomiyaki means 'as you like it', the modan in modanyaki is an engrish pronunciation of modern. The mon in monjayaki comes from the fact that mon is the sound Japanese people make when they puke.

That is not true at all, but monjayaki sure does look like a half digested meal.

Tastes great though, especially with cheese in it.
