A Title About Leaving

You have to keep this in mind: we are really tired. We have been crazy busy trying to close up shop and plan our final tour of Japan. And the last week especially has been a blur.

I am sitting on a bed in a hotel room in Miyazaki (Hayao!!!) with wrestling on the teevee and trying to explain about the last while. And over the course of the last four days, we have slept less than eight hours. A couple of those were from the nap we had this afternoon.

But the lack of sleep and the heavy drinking and moving of heavy belongings combined to create bizarre moments of gorgeous clarity. Perfect moments crystallizing all that we will forever miss about this strange city that has been our home for our whole married life.

Getting rid of three years of your life is not an easy thing. Doing that while making sure you fit in time to say goodbye to everyone: even less so. Doing that with a royally messed up back: not as painful as I was expecting. (By the way, concrete stairs at high speeds are murder on the lower back when you slam said lower back into said stairs.) Doing all that with a minimum of tears: most impressive!

But we did it. We are done. Done in Osaka (albeit with a lot left undone). The rest of Japan awaits.
