Day 26: Tokyo

Man, I was silly to think that nine days would be too long to spend in Tokyo. We've barely scratched the surface and it is already time to go.

We were in Harajuku yesterday. It was a toss up between that and Akihabara. We could have been in Akihabara yesterday. Japan is known worldwide for its electronics and Akihabara is often called electric town. It is where you go to shop for cameras, computers, games and toys. It is always busy, especialy on the weekend. They block off some of the streets, so that the only traffic is foot traffic. Like yesterday. Sunday. A very busy day anywhere in Tokyo.

Yesterday a moron drove his rented vehicle into a crowded intersection in Akihabara, hitting several people. The idiot then got out of his vehicle and started repeatedly stabbing the people he had hit. Then he started randomly slashing at anyone and everyone nearby. He knifed 17 people before the police took him down. Seven of them are dead.

They say he says he was 'sick of living'. That he did this as a suicide attempt. I say that is crap. You know how often police shoot people in this country? Neither do I. Because they don't. When people want to die in this country, they step in front of a train. This guy, he didn't want to die. He got what he wanted. He wanted to be on TV, he wanted people to talk about him. I'm done with that.

Now to awkwardly start talking about our holidaying again. I'll just put in a humorous picture to make a clean break of it.

That is indeed a bacon and egg muffin. And a German potato muffin.

Ropongi Hills is some kind of entertainment complex. That is what the travel books say. It looked to me like a big tall building filled with shops that I would never shop at. And it cost 15 bucks to get to the top of the big tall building. No way, sez we.

Especially since you can get up to the top of Tokyo Metropolitan building for free. That is what we did. And the view was amazing. Tokyo is a big, big, stupidly big city. 9 days is no where near enough to see all of it.
