Zombies and Videogames
As of late, we have been going through a lot of our old pictures. We have about a year's worth of 'em on the ole compy and she ain't running so good. Having only 1 gig out of 60 free is not the best thing. So we've been burning off all sorts of things. Including pictures. Pictures from around this time last year. Around this time last year we were actually doing stuff. Seeing sights. All sorts of sights. Not so much this year. Which is both kinda sad and totally understandable. We're both coming home for a bit next month and that is going to take money. Getting ready to visit home next month is taking up a lot of our free time. So yeah, no frivolity for us lately. Except for this weekend. We once again went to the Osaka Games Festa. Has it been a whole year already? Wow. I went to the Festa on both days, but Carla had to work on Saturday. We met up after she was done at Bar Dogra Magra (meaning we met at the bar, not that we met after she was done at the bar). We also met up with Jon there. Jon made three, and the bar seated about 10 people. It was a small bar. But it had a wide selection of food and drink. Mainly because they went out and bought whatever you wanted. Want a kebab? The dude runs out and buys you a kebab. Easy as that. Just make sure you pour your own Guinness.
We weren't there for the food or drink though. We were there for the movies. Above the bar was a small screening room where they were playing a zombie movie double feature that night. Wild Zero and Brain Dead aren't "true" zombie movies if you wanna get all anal about it. No one would place them in the zombie movie canon. They ain't canonical. But when they're this much fun, who cares?
Wild Zero is a Rock and Roll zombie movie. A Japanese Rock And Roll zombie movie. A Japanese Rock and Roll zombie movie shot in Thailand. Starring Guitar Wolf. Guitar Wolf is a very loud Japanese Rock And Roll band. So loud that you have to capitalize Rock And Roll. Guitar Wolf has 3 members: Guitar Wolf, Bass Wolf and Drum Wolf. Yeah.
Oh yeah, the Wild Zero DVD has a drinking game on it. It's a very good thing we didn't try to keep up with it. We would have ended up broke and dead.
I'm conflicted here: I want to talk all about the cool stuff in the movie but I don't want to ruin it. Let me just say this: ROCK N ROLL tranny drinking fire exploding heads. "Love has no boundaries, nationalities or gender!" Hair combing. Short shorts.
Brain Dead is one of the movies that Peter Jackson made before Lord of the Rings. Brain Dead is known as Dead Alive in North America. I had seen it before, back home. Both the rated and unrated versions. Even though Dead Alive is one of the goriest movies of all time and massive bloody chunks had to be ripped out to get the R rating, the R rated version has a longer running time. But the one we saw this eve had extra bits I had never seen before. Somehow, the movie got even grosser. And funnier. Funny in a horribly gross way. So gross.
Should I bore you with video game talk? Nah, I have other outlets for that.
Just know this: last year was better.

I'm very excited that you guys are coming home! And Nate's going to be here for Christmas too. And I'm guessing James will be home too. Woo hoo!

I was inspired by your great review of Wild Zero to get and watch it myself. Suprisingly one of the best movies I've seen in a while, but I guess that doesn't say much does it, hehe. I enjoy reading your blog in the short time that I've known about it, makes me want to take a trip to Japan more and more each time.
